Our Research
The Iowa ACEs Coalition has conducted research and developed these white papers to guide work in Iowa.
Published in December 2019, the Prenatal Strategies to Support Families white paper explores the science behind prenatal care and opportunities for early interventions to prevent ACEs in future generations. Click here or the image to read the four-page document.

Released in the spring of 2017, ACEs and Epigenetics explores the emerging field of epigenetics and the impact of childhood trauma. This white paper also reviews data from the Iowa PRAMS survey (Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System) as it relates to ACEs and discusses opportunities to respond with an emphasis on the prenatal period. Assessments
This section includes surveys, questionnaires, and calculators which may be useful for understanding the adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) framework, factors which may be protective against traumatic stress, and resiliency. The materials in this section are not intended to be used diagnostically or to determine a person’s risk factors. These materials should be used with care and always in conjunction with supporting information, such as information on the importance of healthy early brain development and the positive benefits of resiliency and protective factors.
