Responding to ACEs by Sector

Each sector of our community has a unique opportunity to respond to toxic stress. The white papers below review additional research related to key sectors and how professionals can begin to develop a trauma-informed approach.
Find more resources by sector in our Raising Resiliency toolkit.

Iowa Model for Early Care and Education:
Early Childhood Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports has been active in Iowa early learning settings for almost ten years. The vision of EC-PBIS is that the Pyramid Model for Supporting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children practices are present in all settings young children find themselves: home, family child care, child care centers, health and mental health settings, Head Start and preschools.

Epigenetics and Prenatal Care
Released in the spring of 2017, ACEs and Epigenetics explores the emerging field of epigenetics and the impact of childhood trauma. This white paper also reviews data from the Iowa PRAMS survey (Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System) as it relates to ACEs and discusses opportunities to respond with an emphasis on the prenatal period.
